About the event
Sallie-Anne Huckstepp was found dead in Busby’s Pond, Centennial Park, on 6 February 1986. It took almost two weeks for her death to be officially ruled a murder. Forty years on, the case remains unsolved.
Once dismissed as a sex worker and heroin addict, Sallie-Anne proved to be fearless, articulate and unwavering in her pursuit of justice. After her partner Warren Lanfranchi was shot dead by Roger Rogerson in 1981, she took on some of the most powerful figures in NSW through the media, determined to expose systemic corruption within the police force.
When her close friend and fellow whistleblower Lynette Woodward disappeared, Sallie-Anne refused to back down. Together, their courage helped spark public awareness of deep-rooted corruption at the highest levels of the state. They changed the conversation, but both paid with their lives. Neither murder has ever been solved.
