Roger Rogerson was the golden boy of the NSW Police and tipped for high rank - maybe even Commissioner. The media loved him. His peers admired him. He and his wife and two children lived a peaceful life in Sydney;s south west suburb. He was the perfect neighbour always around to help and engaging man with the touch of a successful retail politician. But behind the facade, Roger was corrupt and brutal. His friendship/business partnership with the drug dealing homicidal armed robber Neddy Smith rocked the nation when exposed in court and later in the ABC series Blue Murder. Forty years ago this year, Roger was sacked - not for his crimes but for a TV interview with Ray Martin. Welcome to policing 80s style.
