In 1990, Roger (pronounced Ro-Jay) Claude Teyssedre, the flamboyant king of Sydney’s gay nightlife, died in mysterious circumstances. Alongside Dawn “Croc-A-Dyke” Dundee O’Donnell, he had built an empire of gay bars, pubs and sex-on-premises venues, along with a glittering, gaudy Paddington home that was as much salon as it was spectacle.
His death triggered chaos. Despite promises made to his many former lovers, most of his fortune was left to his current partner, Ludwig Gertsch — a retired go-go dancer and hairdresser. Ludwig inherited the money, the businesses and the lifestyle. But he never made it to his first Christmas as a multimillionaire.
