Fifty years ago, Juanita Nielsen walked into Sydney's Carousel Club and was never seen again.

A newspaper publisher, activist and heiress, Juanita had become one of the loudest voices opposing the powerful property developers determined to reshape Victoria Street. Her disappearance remains one of Australia's greatest unsolved mysteries, surrounded by corruption, organised crime, political influence and decades of speculation.


What happened after Juanita vanished was an investigation clouded by dead ends, conflicting witnesses, powerful interests and persistent rumours. Even today, theories surrounding her fate continue to fascinate, from the plausible to the extraordinary.


Juanita's disappearance was only the beginning. In the years that followed, two more courageous women, Sallie Anne Huckstepp and Lynne Woodward, challenged corruption within the NSW Police Force and Sydney's criminal underworld. Both paid the ultimate price for exposing the truth.
