David and Catherine Birnie are that fortunately rare creature - a serial killer couple. Over four weeks starting  in early October 1986 they stalked, abducted, sexually abused four women in Perth. Together they prowled the familiar highway that connected their home to the centre of the city, targeting vulnerable young women and pretending to be good Samaritans. The police investigation was getting nowhere until their fifth victim, Kate Moir, who’d endured an horrific night at their hands, seized an opportunity to escape.  Her smarts and bravery ended the Birnie’s reign of terror. But the question remains - were there others?
